What are Palpitations?
Palpitations are sensations felt inside or around the chest.
Assessing Palpitations
It's advisable to check the radial pulse to determine if it is regular or irregular.
It's important to ascertain if palpitations are normal for the patient.
Associated Symptoms
Check for any pain or shortness of breath experienced alongside palpitations.
Causes of Palpitations
Palpitations may be attributed to anxiety, where it could be a sensation rather than an actual heart rhythm issue.
However, palpitations could also indicate a serious cardiac arrhythmia.
Immediate Evaluation
If palpitations suggest a cardiac arrhythmia, prompt investigation with a heart tracing is necessary.
